Upcoming Events for August 2017 at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market

Folks, things are really heating up down at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market this month! And I don’t mean just the temperatures! Here’s the scoop!

August 5:

Our band will be The Griffin Family Band, a multi-generational fiddling, Irish band. Here’s a quick clip of them at the Anacortes Farmers Market: https://www.facebook.com/thegriffinfamilyband/videos/2014768295421740/

The theme is Kid Appreciation Day, highlighted with a Treasure Hunt and water fun. This will be the weekend for cooling down! Also, in line with the Kid Appreciation Day, there will be a special appearance by MoNA (Museum of Northwest Art, from La Conner) and the Farmers Market Flash will do their cooking demo with and for kids! Look for the new Kids Booth sign!

August 12:

Our one-woman, always popular band, Marcia Kester, is the once again our music for the day. You know you love her! You know you want to dance a line dance with your friends when you hear her music! Come on down and enjoy her show. http://www.marciakester.com/

Do you know that the week of August 12th is National Farmers Market week? Come and see why farmers markets are so important to families across the nation. This is also the week of the Lincoln Theatre’s annual Brewfest, starting at 2PM, on RiverWalk Plaza. Because of Brewfest, the Market will close at 1PM. In addition to Brewfest, it’s also the final date for the Skagit County Fair.

Our community booth will be Red X Disaster Prep, to help you and your family prepare in case of an emergency. Middle Way Acupuncture will be there to help with your acupuncture needs.

For the kids this week, the Skagit Historical Museum has some fun stuff to see and talk about.

Our food demo will be Alexis Orsini! We’re excited to see what she’ll prepare for us. Tomato and pepper season should be in full-swing this week.

August 19:Volunteers

No music is scheduled for this week, but I’ll bet there will be a few buskers hanging around showing off their stuff!

Join us for the Mount Vernon Farmers Market‘s FARM FOOD FEUD on Saturday, August 19th from 11am-12pm in downtown Mount Vernon! Three local chefs will gather fresh market ingredients and create a dish that will be tasted and judged by our secret panel. One chef will be named the FARM FOOD FEUD CHAMPION!

Skagit CoHousing is our community booth. What is the Skagit CoHousing organization, you ask? Here’s their description, from their web site: “We are an intentional community that welcomes diversity in age, race, beliefs, ethnicity, income level, sexual orientation and physical ability. We encourage members to cooperate with, appreciate, and assist one another and our surrounding neighborhood. Our concern for the environment influences our decisions in planning, construction, and daily life.” Come on down and learn more about them.

August 26:

Our musical guest this week, is Peter Ali, and his magical flute. Really, if you haven’t heard this master of the Native-American flute music you should hurry down to the Market to experience it. Haunting and lovely!

Our theme for this week is “Volunteer Appreciation Week”. Does anything get down without good, dedicated volunteers? The answer is “no”, it doesn’t. The folks here at the Market appreciate all the help their volunteers give us. Many thanks, Volunteers!

The Community tent will host Julia Rowlands, from the Domestic Violence group. Come by for important information, and support.

Help us celebrate all the best that summer has to offer and “Meet Me at the Market” this August!
